NAPLES, Fla. – A judge has ruled that a Florida man accused of killing his wife and five children is competent to stand trial.

Circuit Judge Frank Baker issued the ruling Thursday in the case of Mesac Damas, who is charged with six counts of first-degree murder. Authorities say the 34-year-old Damas is accused of cutting the throats of his wife and five young children in September 2009 in their home in Naples, southwest Florida.

Mental health professionals had disagreed over whether Damas was mentally competent to stand trial. One of the experts had said Damas is incompetent, due to a delusional disorder.
