GEORGETOWN, Del (Reuters) – A Delaware pediatrician was found guilty on all counts on Thursday of raping and sexually assaulting patients, typically as young as 3-years-old.

Judge William Carpenter found Dr. Earl Bradley, of Lewes, Delaware, guilty of 24 counts of rape, sexual assault and sexual exploitation in the non-jury trial in Sussex County, Delaware Superior Court.

Bradley was accused of attacks on dozens of his patients, all but one of them girls, between 1998 and 2009, and several of the criminal counts encompassed multiple attacks.

The doctor made 86 videotapes of the attacks, using tiny hidden cameras, according to testimony by state police who investigated the case.

Bradley, 58, dressed in prison garb, sat silently and without visible emotion as the verdicts were read.

The courtroom was crowded with journalists and spectators, some of whom sobbed as the judge spoke. The courtroom was heavily guarded by more than 20 armed officers.

Police who testified in the one-day trial said Bradley preferred nonverbal toddlers as his victims and that their average age was just over 3-years-old.

One officer said Bradley often gave his victims colored ice to suck on to cover up bruising and blood left when he forced their mouths open.

Prosecutors presented the testimony of just two police officers in the June 7 trial, and the defense did not present any case.

The doctor faces life in prison without the possibility of parole at his August 26 sentencing. A gag order prohibiting attorneys to comment on the case remains in effect until then.
