BIRMINGHAM (Reuters) – A Chicago man sought on drug trafficking charges was arrested in Brent, Alabama, on Thursday after a nationwide manhunt, officials said.

Corey Griffin, 40, had been on the run since November after he was charged in Chicago federal district court with conspiracy to distribute more than one kilogram of heroin and with three additional counts of heroin possession, according to law enforcement officials.

Griffin appeared before a federal magistrate in Birmingham on Thursday. He will be returned to Chicago for prosecution, officials said.

Local police and agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation made the arrest. Griffin allegedly transported drugs to a network of dealers under the alias "Fat Rat," according to information from the FBI.

Brent is about 60 miles southwest of Birmingham.
